Born in Dayton, Kentucky and a graduate of Newport Catholic High School, Dr. Michael D. O’Brien attended the University of Kentucky and received his M.D. degree from the University of Louisville. He completed his internship in internal medicine at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee and his residency in orthopaedic surgery at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

Dr. O’Brien is on staff at the St. Elizabeth Healthcare (formerly St. Elizabeth Medical Centers and St. Luke Hospitals). He has served as past President of the Medical Staff at St. Luke Hospital and has served as chief of surgery at St. Luke Hospital. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, and a member of the Kentucky Medical Association, the Northern Kentucky Medical Society, and the Freiberg Society.

Dr. O’Brien specializes in General Orthopaedics with interest in Total Hip and Total Knee Replacement and Arthroscopic Knee surgery.
